When choosing the place for your location photos, you want to find a stunning spot that offers a variety of backdrops. It also should be close to your reception venue.

Here are our top 15 wedding location photo spots in Melbourne.

Albert Park Lake

Albert Park Lake and its surrounding gardens, perfectly mix urban and rural. The glassy mirror-like lake, tropical trees and boats set against a city skyline are a great mix. Albert Park Lake is also close to many iconic waterfront wedding receptions.

Australian Centre for Contemporary Art

Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, on Stuart Street in South Bank,  is one of the best Melbourne wedding photography locations in the urban area. With contemporary architecture and lots of space, it is a great spot for wide shots and photos of the couple and bridal party with the wedding cars.


The Boutique Chanel shop on Flinders Lane has a stunning architectural wall, and the iconic Chanel logos, that are perfect for modern and super fashionable photos! Just be mindful, it’s a busy street so you’ll be working around pedestrians.

Fitzroy Gardens

Fitzroy Gardens is a popular inner-city photo spot, as it is near reception venues in Melbourne City as well as the inner northern and easter suburbs. The iconic tree-lined pathway, the conservatory, the River God fountain and the Wind Temple, are all stunning backdrops.

Flinders Street Station

Flinders Street Station, with its French Renaissance architecture, is one of the most iconic landmarks in Melbourne and a very popular wedding photo spot.

Federation Square and Princes Bridge are also within walking distance of Flinders Street Station. Princes Bridge offers a panoramic view of the Yarra Valley and the city skyline.

Hosier Lane. The most iconic place for Melbourne’s Street art is Hosier Lane. The Lane provides a vibrant fun backdrop, with walls filled with edgy graffiti and stencils. Hosier Lane is set in the heart of Melbourne CBD, so it is nearby lots of reception venues.

Labassa Mansion, in Caulfield North, is an outstanding Victorian era mansion with opulent architectural features. It is easy to see why, it is one of the most sought-after wedding photo locations in Melbourne

Luna Park

For some fun and light-hearted shotsLuna Park is for you. Luna Park is an iconic amusement Park, set on the foreshore of Port Phillip Bay in St Kilda, Melbourne. The park provides a vibrant backdrop that is quirky and like no other. Reception venues such as Encore, The George Ballroom, Harbour room are all close by.

National Gallery of Victoria

The National Gallery of Victoria is an art museum, founded in 1861. It is Australia’s longest, largest and most visited space.

The gallery’s stained glass ceiling and contemporary art display room are great spots for photos, it is also super easy to get to, situated in South Bank location.

Parliament House:

Parliament House is one of Melbourne’s most popular and iconic wedding photo locations. Parliament House offers a historic and grand backdrop for your photos. It is also great for a large bridal party.

Princes Pier

Princes Pier is a historic pier with 580 meters of original wooden pillars left popping out of the water, as your photo backdrop. The pier is at Port Phillip in Port Melbourne, so it is easy to access from the CBD. It can be a bit windy and wild here, so be sure to choose a sunny day!

Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens

Located on the North-Eastern edge of Melbourne CBD, the 26 hectares of manicured gardens, historical Royal Exhibition building and it’s contemporary architecture make this location super desirable for wedding photos.

The tree-lined pathway and fountain in front of the Royal Exhibition Building provide are great backdrops, as are the expansive gardens.

Spice Market

Set on Beaney Lane in the CBD, Spice Market provides vibrant and subterranean style photo options with exotic Middle Eastern decors.

Keep in mind, it is about $350 for 1.5 hours.

St Kilda Botanical Gardens

With various options, including The Rose Garden, the Rainman Fountain, the conservatory, and the Palm Line path, St Kilda Botanical Garden is a great choice. Keep in mind you will need to pay $100 for a permit to shoot here.

Victoria Barracks

On St Kilda Road in Southbank, Victoria Barracks is one of the most impressive 19th Century buildings in Melbourne, with a beautiful green covered stone wall. You do need to apply for the permit to take wedding photography here, from the Department of Defence.
