The Average Cost of an Auckland Wedding

Congratulations, you’re engaged and have that newly engaged glow about you. You are ready to get wedding planning but have heard it can be stressful. Never fear, the Feature Weddings team is here!

Let’s break down wedding planning into manageable pieces, starting with your budget.

How each couple plans and spends their wedding budget is a personal choice. The average cost of an Auckland wedding is said to be around $35,000. For culturally diverse weddings the average cost is $55,000.

This is made up of the below approximate costs:

Venue: $2,000 – $12,000

Your venue will most likely be your biggest spend. This cost will include the rental of the venue itself and things like furniture, parking and sometimes catering, or this can be a separate cost as below. Be sure to ask your vendor exactly what the base fee includes, if they have any packages and what are the additional extras – things like candy carts are fun but may not be worth the additional expense.

Catering: $2,000 – $8,000

First, work out a budget per head for catering and go from there. This will depend on the style of meal you are after; plated, shared plates or buffet, as well as setting aside some funds for canapes and your cake. This cost also normally includes staff and will likely include cake-cutting fees and the like but be sure to check.

Bar tab: $5,000 – 10,000

Depending on how much your guests like to drink; the bar tab can go up to $10,000. Some venues will let you bring in your wine and beer, be sure to ask as this can reduce costs. You can also include beer and wine on the bar tab but have guests pay for extras like spirits and those shots that guests will be lining up at the bar for later. Don’t forget to check the venue’s corkage charges!

Photographer and Videographer: $2,000 – $7,000

Once you have your venue sorted the next thing is ensuring you have your photographer and videographer booked in. You want those loved-up moments captured forever right!? The cost of this will depend on the venue/ location, timings, and final deliverables (number of images/ edited videos etc.) As with all your vendors, make sure you are hiring people that fit your vibe and make you feel calm and listened to. For a full photo/ video package with Feature Weddings, you are looking at $7,000 – $15,000.

Attire: $3,000

Your dress, groom’s suit and wedding party attire will also be a significant line item in your budget. Be sure to account for tailoring and accessories such as your shoes and jewellery, as well as things like make-up, hair, tan, nails etc. You’ll also need to make sure this budget counts for your wedding party’s attire and their shoes/ nails etc., or you can make these items optional and at their cost. Discuss as a couple what you are comfortable with paying for and what isn’t necessary.

Others – décor, flowers, stationery, wedding favors, entertainment, cake, transport: $2,000 – $10,000

Your décor and flowers can be scaled up and down as you please, for a basic wedding package for your bridal bouquet, groom’s boutonniere, wedding party items, ceremony backdrop and table decorations you are looking at about $1,500 – $2,000. The rest of your spending will be spread across items such as your stationery (invites/ signage, menus etc.), entertainment, transport and wedding favors.

At the end of the day how you spend your budget is completely up to you as a couple.
