Datt DholGuy

Prashant Datt is a Kiwi Fiji Indian percussionist born and raised in Auckland. He started learning to play Tabla at the age of 7 and has been playing and learning for 23 years. In 2006, he went to India to learn Tabla professionally for two months.

Aside from Tabla, Prashant has also been playing Dhol since 2014, which he taught himself by being a percussionist. He is capable of playing various percussion instruments such as drums, Dholki, Congos/Bingos/Octopad, and more. Prashant has performed Dhol at around 50 weddings to date, and his Dhol idea came during the first lockdown when he was doing it for friends and family by word of mouth.

Prashant got the idea to make his talent a genuine interest and side hustle by utilizing social media. Since then, he has performed at Indian concert gigs, live stage/show performances, and has good knowledge of sound and lighting systems. He is an Electrical Engineer by day and a musician by night. Prashant has also played live and made a track for the BlackCaps & India 2022 Summer Tour with the legendary King Kapisi, which can be found on his Instagram page.
