Auckland’s Indian Temples

Indian temples not only provide people with spiritual solace, they also serve as cultural hubs for weddings, festivals and community activities.

Indian temples are a vibrant place where people can experience rich cultural and religious traditions.

Here are four notable Indian temples in Auckland, that make gorgeous and special venues for a wedding.

1. Bharatiya Mandir, Balmoral

Bharatiya Mandir, Balmoral was the first temple in New Zealand, opened in 1993.

Bharatiya Mandir offers various services and hosts numerous events throughout the year, making it a central hub for the Hindu community in Auckland. The main aim for the building is that it is used as a community centre, bringing people and families together.

2. Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Papatoetoe

Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is renowned for its intricate wood carvings and traditional Indian architecture.

The temple is run by the International Swaminarayan Satsang Organisation (ISSO), a national charitable organisation that builds, looks after and advances the Nar Narayan Dev satsang outside of India. The organisation’s prime objective is “to advance the Sanatan Dharma, in accordance with the principles and teachings of the Swaminarayan Sampraday.”

The Auckland temple is known as the jewel in ISSO’s crown. The mandir was established in Auckland in 2008. It is truly divine and can be matched in its grand architecture only by the great temples of India.

This temple is a Feature favourite and is very popular with our couples!

3. Auckland Sri Ganesh Temple, Papakura

Auckland Sri Ganesh Temple was established in 2002. It is dedicated to Lord Ganesha and offers daily rituals and special poojas

Lord Ganesha is the chief (Isa) of Lord Shiva’s army and attendants, hence the name Ganesha. In the name Ganapathi, Ga denotes “knowledge,” na means “salvation,” and pati means “lord.” He is known for removing all of the obstacles(vignas) in the path of progress and wellbeing of his devotees.

The temple is a serene place for devotion and community events.

4. BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Avondale

This temple is part of the global BAPS network. It conducts daily rituals, regular sabhas (gatherings), and various cultural and spiritual events.

The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir temple is absolutely stunning and a great place to photograph.
